January Blues, Development Highs and Hogwarts Buzz!
Greetings, pixel pals!
It’s ben a quiet start to the new year in Habbo Hotel, with most of the team seemingly caught up in the fallout from the Rasta Santa Pixel Competition. If you’ve somehow missed the drama, here’s the short version: rules were changed mid-competition, leaving many participants feeling understandably frustrated. The team has since apologised and promised to do better. This author, however, will be keeping a very close eye to ensure that these promises aren’t just empty words. Let’s hope this slip doesn’t set the tone for the rest of the year.
Developer Dave to the Rescue

If the events team is snoozing, Developer Dave is wide awake and delivering. The latest patch notes are an absolute triumph, proving once again that our beloved coder deserves praise. Here’s what’s new:
- Follow a Friend: It’s official! You can now stalk-err, follow – your friends into public and private rooms. Don’t forget to toggle your settings if you value privacy.
- Moodlights: The community asked, and Dave delivered. Moodlights are back in all their nostalgic glory, and plans for expanded lighting options are already in the works!
- Click & Drag (Private Rooms): A promising feature that unfortunately launched a tad too early. While there are kinks to iron out (like breaking mazes – oops!), the commitment to working with game creators is appreciated.
- Core Fixes Galore: From teleporter improvements to sprite clean-ups, it’s clear that Dave has been busy tidying up under the hood. Also, fish hand items? Consider me hooked.
Keep an eye out for next weeks post, where the Habbo team will reveal plans for the future. Judging by this update, 2025 is off to a strong start on the development front!

Hogwarts Hijinks
If you’ve stepped into the hotel this last week or two, you’ve probably heard the buzz: Origins Hogwarts is the event of the season. From Gryffindor to Ravenclaw, it seems like everyone is diving into the wizarding world to enjoy trivia events, room building, pixel art competitions, Discord events and more!
Slytherin, however, appears to be plotting a MAJOR comeback. I’ve got my sources – watch your back, folks.
The immersive nature of this event has taken over, and while I personally adore the magic, it’s refreshing to see the hotel so lively and engaged. Are Mystic, BobBarker, Matthew and their magical team saving our beloved Hotel?
Well with Phase 2 of the event just beginning, and darkness slowly spreading across the castle – anything is possible. I’ll be sure to invite my ever so illustrious companion, Rita Skeeter back to share more soon!
Discord Drama
No week in Habbo Origins would be complete without a little drama in the official Discord server. Trolls and instigators have made their presence known, but the moderation team is not messing around. Tighter user verification measures have been implemented, ensuring that the server remains a safe and inclusive space.
With that said, this author firmly believes that moderation both in the server and hotel could do with a vast improvement, and calls for change.
To those causing chaos: have you considered going outside?
Fresh air works wonders for the soul!
That’s all for now, darlings! Whether you’re basking in the glow of your new moodlights, joining the Hogwarts yapping, or appreciating the quieter days of January, don’t forget: the year is young, and so much more is ahead!
Until next time,
